The Case of Dr. Dalton Plastic Surgeon
E.E. King
When patients came out of anesthesia, their faces and entire bodies looked longer, thinned and more sculpted. They looked much younger, as did the entire hospital staff and all their friends. Instead of slicing faces, Dr. Dalton carved retinas, reshaping them into flattering fun house mirrors. The patients loved their new appearance, but not its universality. Dr. Dalton was deported to the country of the Blind. There he invented a miniscule laser for treating bee blindness, meticulously reshaping thousands of tiny compound eyes. The bees appreciated their improved vision just fine. They didn’t care or even know that bees are not usually perceived as long slender critters.
E.E. KING is the author of the novel Dirk Quigby’s Guide to the Afterlife (Exterminating Angel, 2010) and her short stories have been published widely. E.E. King has performed internationally in theater, comedy and dance. She is the recipient of various international painting, writing and biology grants but is too modest to mention them here. She’s worked with children in Bosnia and is currently planting butterfly gardens with children in South Central LA. For more go to:
