Love in the Park
Bethany Haug

1.
The world was a bone and the bone was as good as anything that had ever happened.

Everywhere was free time and the times were good if you were looking for a deal.

The world grew weary, then the weary grew up and everyone was having a plight.

Now there's hardly any free time but the times are good if you're looking for a deal.

The world is a bone and the bone is as good as anything that has ever happened.

2.
The world was a dog and the dog was as good as anything that had ever happened.

Everywhere was true love and the loving was good if you were looking for a thrill.

The world grew weary, then the weary grew up and everyone was having a plight.

Now there's hardly any true love but the loving is good if you're looking for a thrill.

The world is a dog and the dog is as good as anything that has ever happened.

BETHANY HAUG is currently finishing her MFA in poetry at Oregon State University. She is from Salt Lake City, Utah.
