Enchanted, I'm Sure
Nick Narbutas

T
he enchanted girdle of desire is a poem in itself.
This poem is a girdle for itself. The enchanted
girdle of desire is the cosmic action
and reaction to effective contraception. I loved
a girl once—maybe she wore a girdle but
I never saw it—she had those clamshell eyelids,
I mean I wanted to scoop out her eyes with an elegant fork.
I will admit I don’t totally know what one does
with a clamshell but if I had my own
enchanted girdle of desire, the clamshell
would know what to do with me. Excuse me,
I’m not usually this forward, I prefer to crabwalk
my way out of the starry riptides, I’m not a forward-
anything type of guy, but the way you strangle
your intestinal highway is driving me wild.
If I knew how to enchant things, top of my list
would be a buzz saw, then a paisley handkerchief,
followed by whatever you happen to be
wrapping your uterus in tonight.
