Afraid
Megan Kennedy

I once asked Jake if he was ever afraid of running out on stage.

"I was afraid once. Once, and only once. It was when I figured out that running out on a stage was all my life had become. The crimson love I had for music had faded, and that fear took me over and I felt my breathing become shallow and ragged. But after I realized I would never get that crimson love back, I stopped being afraid. I became a robot, just like you."

But fear, Jake? Fear? Can you honestly say you were afraid?

"It's one of those things you can't explain, Adam. Like life on a Friday night watching a movie in the dark. You want to jump at the scary parts, but the strings just aren’t loud enough, and it's then that you realize you were never afraid in the first place. But when you finally do become afraid, Adam, make sure you remember and record that day, for in your life it will never happen again."

If she had to suddenly give up writing and find a new job, MEGAN KENNEDY would have a tough time choosing between assassin or exorcist.
